MARKET REPORT – NOV. 30TH, 2018

Let’s just fly through the list and see what makes the news!

Speaking of flying – Chile is delayed again on blueberries as growers still recover from hail shatter a couple of weeks ago at least in the region where ours come from.  Expect first arrival around the 9th or so.  We’ve been relying on Argentina for the last 6 weeks and that continues for another 10 days.  Except we can’t get any.  Why?  The dumbest of reasons.  There is a G20 summit in Argentina this week.  When the King of Saudi Arabia, the child from the US, dictators from Russia and elsewhere hob-nob for a week and get nothing accomplished except a nice break from the news cycle – that’s the G20, and because there’s so many important people in one place, air space is restricted and air freight shipments are cancelled, in case terrorists ……………

MARKET REPORT – NOV. 22ND 2017

Ya’ know…, you don’t get a bad book review if you don’t write a book. 

Old saying.  True.  Sometimes I write market reports, relying on really solid information from growers, blended with the wisdom that comes with 30 years of involvement in this industry,  and then a couple of days later I find that everything has changed, and what I said was just plain wrong.  This creates a conundrum.  I could fill a page with bland, nuanced lines highlighted with “could” “maybe” and “speculation has it”, but instead I choose to just throw it out there as it comes in.  And it usually sticks.

MARKET REPORT – FEB. 26TH, 2016

We are getting some of the nicest artichokes!

Apple market seems to be stable, although high, with all fruit Washington XF or Juice.  Avocado continues to be a strong market with mid-season fruit very high in oil, giving richer flesh and more flavour.
