Jacobs Farm – Del Cabo Organic

Having already created Jacobs Farm, a successful organic farming operation, and with a knack for developing niche markets, longtime organic farmers Larry Jacobs and Sandra Belin were confident in their vision for their next venture. In 1985, they encountered a community of struggling, subsistence-level farmers in Mexico, and the Del Cabo cooperative was conceived.

Viva Tierra

Viva Tierra Organic, Inc. is committed to selling organically grown products with the goal of providing optimum prices and service to our growers and suppliers around the world, superior quality and service to our customers, and a healthy, team spirited working environment for our employees. This mission will be fulfilled as we strive to leave a better environment and a more fertile land for future generations.

Our fresh organic produce is sold under our own brands as well as under our growers’ and packers’ own labels. You will find our Viva Tierra Organic label on organically grown premium quality apples, pears, and other produce from the US, Canada, Argentina and Chile. Viva Tierra Organic, Inc. was founded in 1993 in Sedro-Woolley, Washington as an outgrowth of an organic produce sales agency founded by Roger Wechsler in the Skagit Valley in 1984. Roger’s Brokerage became Cascadian Farm Fresh in 1989 when Roger merged his company with Cascadian Farm.

In 1993 Roger, along with Luis Acuña and other key staff, left Cascadian Farm to form CF Fresh. In 1996 Steve Mackey joined the management team as Director of Finance.

In 2011 Luis Acuña became President and CEO and Steve Mackey became Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. As the founder of the company, Roger Weschler continues to use his many years of organic industry experience for the benefit of the company.

In 2013, in celebration of the company’s 20th anniversary, the name was officially changed from CF Fresh Inc., to Viva Tierra Organic, Inc.

“Viva Tierra” is a Spanish phrase that can be literally translated as “Live Earth” or “Living Earth”, but also caries an additional idiomatic meaning, more akin to “Long Live the Earth” or an exclamation of approval, such as “Hooray for Earth!” This sentiment embodies the company’s philosophy and commitment to sustainable, organic agriculture and fresh, wholesome produce.
