Andrea, Ellen, Ben, Joe and Julie went out to Deltaport at the end of June to have a look around because we are curious about what are bananas, mangos or apples from Latin America go through before touching our dock on Malkin Avenue. We all jumped into a van that looked tiny compared to the surrounding equipment and Chris from Global Container Terminal toured us around, patiently answering the many questions we had.

According to Chris, “The timing of your visit and the questions everyone posed could not have been better.” Nice work Disco team!
While every day should be a celebration of Fairtrade products, May is the opportunity to come together to celebrate and demand fair deals for the producers of the Global South.
Fairtrade Month is the biggest time of year where everyone celebrates everything Fairtrade.
March 31, 2017
Message from Randy Hooper: I am writing you today with some urgency. Some of our most important farmers in the Global South are in a very vulnerable place, and the current flood situation is dire for them. And to be entirely honest, and upfront, this letter is a big ask – we have hundreds of growers homeless, roads washed out, plantations under water, no income on the way, and no money in their jeans to start over without help. I’m asking you to join us and pitch in.
For the third time in 7 years we are committing a fair amount of cash to growers who get up every day and grow fruit that ultimately ends up on your shelves and your customer’s plates. Our customers (perhaps you!) were part of efforts we undertook in 2010 to help re-build worker housing for our Green Tribe blueberry growers in Chile after a 9.2 earthquake left a path of destruction. Together we came up with $39,000 in 2 weeks.
The Canadian Fairtrade Awards takes place annually and nominations are awarded by an independent panel of judges to celebrate noteworthy contributions of Fairtrade stakeholders across Canada. This year it was in Halifax during the annual conference of the Canadian Fair Trade Network.

“This report shows how the staff and World Board have been working hard to fulfill our mission of leading, uniting and assisting the organic movement in its full diversity.
Organic 3.0 is resonating around the world. People on every continent are engaged in our process of developing our new collective vision for the organic movement. This will be signed off by all of us at our General Assembly in India in 2017.”
