P & R Organics

Location:
Prince George BC

When the Buchers moved to Prince George’s Salmon Valley, they purchased 800 acres of land to raise cattle, pigs, and chickens, and to grow grain and vegetables – all in the organic tradition that they had known in their home country of Switzerland. In 1999, the family made the decision to sell a portion of their land and pursue organic certification through COABC for the vegetable part of their operation.

Their 13 acre vegetable plot is a combination of open fields (in use from May to September) and six large greenhouses (extending their active farming to nearly a year-long cycle).

Farming is a way of life for the Bucher family. Two of their three children, Andres and Martina, are full-time workers on the farm, and their eldest son, Daniel, still works in the agricultural industry. Increasingly the Buchers see their farm as a place to share – employing many “WWOOFers” and, beginning in 2007, those pursuing SOIL farming apprenticeships.
