Reiko's Hot Shots Debut!
Howdy Y’all!!!
Welcome to my first ever Hot Shots commentary!!!
Let me start by telling you a bit ‘bout myself, if that’s at all helpful to you (y’know, dispelling the mystery of who you ACTUALLY are talking to on the other side of that phone line).
I was raised in the West Kootenays, by my lovely and interesting homesteading parents. My folks raised the majority of our food, and are passionate advocates of eating organically and simple livin’! (I just recently found out that they make like 2 bags of garbage a year…ridiculous bar-setting people!).
Aside from that, I’ve worked at the Kootenay Co-op in Nelson, where I got to do a little of everything in the Produce Department for 9 years. I recently estimated that I’ve prepped over 70,000 pounds of celery…a number somewhat horrifying to me. I mean, you like to think that you spend the majority of your time with friends, family, and coworkers.
Not with celery.
So, all that’s lead me to joining the family at Discovery Organics, and I couldn’t be happier!! Still working the ‘duce!! (Just retiring the steel toed boots for a bit…).
Ursula’s kindly passing the Hot Shots torch to me, and I will do my best to keep you informed of what’s happening!
Heaven’s Best Red Grapes! Crisp! Lovely!
“Really tasty!!” says Ursula, while chomping on a mouthful.
Yellow Peaches from California…rosy, glowy, peachy!
Peaches give me hope…Summer’s around the corner!
Homegrown Blueberries from Cali…tasty, they made Ursula drunk! Not because they’re rotten, but because they’re super good! She had a Violet Beauregarde moment! (And if you don’t know who she is…well, I guess you’re not a real Oompa Loompa).
Cameo Apples! Apple selection is tight (being as it’s May and all) but we have some nice Cameos, Fujis, and Galas!
Yellow Nectarines are in the house! Vibrant red and luscious looking (like Ursula).
Fair Trade D’anjous from “Taste Me Do Good” (Interrupcion). Nice presentation. Suspect grammar (though I can’t really comment on that).
Fair Trade Tommy Atkins Mangoes abound!!! They be everywhere!!
Persian Cukes by Del Cabo…it’s the party pack!
Good ol’ Broccolette… Kristy Loo Hoo’s favorite!
Pemberton Red Potatoes from Across the Creek, 3# bags. They would make Anne of Green Gables proud.
Fennel! My current fave…
Make a salad with fresh Fennel, Carrots, and Oranges!!! Drizzle with a Meyer Lemon-Mint vinagrette!!
Mini Sweets…always a customer fave!
We still have squash! Butternut, yo!
And lastly, CoastalView Asparagus…nice!!
Well, that’s me, over and out…. I look forward to talking to you in days to come, and hearing your tales from the Organic Fruit & Veg World!
Big Love,
Reiko
