Oh My Darling Clementine
What’s the story with these mini tangerines?
Some might confuse the clementine with a mandarin or a tangerine, but these sweet li’l guys are actually thought to be a cross between a Chinese mandarin and an orange.
Dating back to 2000 BC, their history is quite the mystery! The clemintine is believed to come from an Algerian monk, Clément Rodier, who was tending his mandarin garden and found a natural mutation. After hundreds of years, the Clementine made its way across to Europe and eventually the United States.
At Discovery, we're lucky to have Clementines grown from the foothills of California’s Sierra Nevada Mountains.
These special winter treats are easy to peel, and seedless, making them a favorite for kids. Furthermore, not only are they tasty, but they are good for you too – with only 50 calories, each Clementine is packed full of vitamin C, fibre, folate, potassium, and antioxidants!
The Clementine season is just starting, so take advantage of the great supply from Homegrown farms that we have while they last.
