Discovery Organics is the newest member of the Domestic Fair Trade Association

We are very pleased to report that Discovery Organics has been accepted as the newest member of the Domestic Fair Trade Association. Formed in 2008, the Domestic Fair Trade Association (DFTA) includes farmworkers and labour organizations, farmers, retailers, NGOs, marketers, processors, and manufacturers.

In order to become a member, Discovery had to strike a committee of senior staff and complete an 18 page application that detailed our working relationship with North American growers, as well as how we treat our own workers. The process raised good conversation internally about how we can further apply the principles of fairness and transparency to our dealings with all our growers, those here at home, and abroad.

We feel the DFTA is an important voice, raising the issue of working conditions for farm labourers here in Canada, and also highlighting the challenges common to small scale farmers here at home and those abroad.

Discovery also looks forward to furthering the conversation of how Domestic Fair Trade as a movement can support the rights of indigenous peoples’ food sovereignty.

Discovery is only the second company in Canada to become a member of the DFTA. We will be present at the Annual General Meeting in San Diego this December, and look forward to adding our voice and efforts to the association and the movement.
